Many thanks to the Triodos Foundation

May 10, 2010

With the donation of the Triodos Foundation we are able to prepare the isolation and quarantine section in the park of PPSC.
This aria’s where not in use for a long time, this because there was not enough money for testing the animals on diseases. Now with the big improvement PPSC makes and running well again we are finely able to test new arrived animals and give them the proper quarantine procedure.
isolasie-cage-before1The quarantine section was so long not in use and not looking proper after, all cages where in bad condition and needed to be prepared. With the donation of the Triodos Foundation I started to prepare these cages, painting, cleaning, and welding new fences. Some of the fences are so rusty and broken that we have to replace them. With the donation we could buy a welding machine that we not only need for the preparing of the quarantine cages, but for many cages in the rest of the park.
Triodos Foundation Thank you so much!

Two macaques rescued.

Two Long tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis) were rescued on March, 19th 2010 in Sukamanah, Cisaat-Sukabumi by PPSC. We confiscate these two animals form an men that was already familiar for us!!! In November last year we visit this man to confiscate a Java Gibbon. Unfortunately we where at that time to late! The gibbon died a few days before our visit.
This man had at that time already 3 macaques and a lot of other animals like turtles, cats, guinneapigs all very bad housed and in bad condition. The macaques were sitting at a chain that was tied up on a wall and one of the females was pregnant. We ask at that time already if he wanted to give us the macaques but he didn’t want to! The problem is that
this animal is not protected, this means for us that we can only rescue macaques if the owner is willing to give the animal to us. At that time the man didn’t want to give the animals to us but finely last march we could convince the owner to give 2 of the macaques Boss and Joko to us. When we arrived there the man had now 6 macaques!! We where hoping that the man want give all the macaques to us, but unfortunately he didn’t. At least Boss and Joko are rescued now and there future is looking good. After arriving at Cikananga, we put Boss and Joko directly into isolation pens in quarantine section to have a medical check, and where we give them the treatment that belongs to the whole quarantine procedure. They where in good condition, although very frightened.
Now two months later they are doing very well, they are active, eating good the medical results where al negative; this means they have no diseases, the where de-wormed twice and the faces was checked. This week we will move them to the socialization cage where we they will be socialised to each other. After this the plan is to bring them to IAR, they are specialised in releasing macaques. Or if this is not possible we will make a group with a few other female macaques and release them by our self. But we are hoping that it is possible to bring them to IAR.tina-de-dierenarts
