Workshop day for staff PPSC

July 10, 2010

On Wednesday 30 June we organised a workshop day for all the employees of PPSC. This workshop was about the new PPSC rescue centre outlining the new rules (vision, mission, animal care, initial treatments, attitude and communication…). The new mission of Cikananga wild life centre is to give support to wild animals who have been confiscated from, or handed over by private persons. These animals are in need of help, concern, housing, food, and welfare, with the ultimate goal to release these animals back to their natural habitat.

The welfare of our animals is the mission our most important goal.

The new vision of Cikananga is to become an internationally accredited wild animal rescue center, capable of providing care and rehabilitation for rescued Indonesian wildlife and Indonesian animals received from abroad.

The most important new rule for the new Cikananga is to put animal welfare in the first place! This means clean cages, a good diet, and daily enrichment. We aim to provide nourishing and stimulating food and cage enrichment’s, in order to give our animals the best care. Another new and important rule is that full means full. In sounds harsh when there are still many animals in need of care and help but over-exceeding the centres limits means that the animals will be housed in small cages and the same care and attention will not be able to given to the animals by their keepers. Therefore PPSC will say no to animals if we are full but will put them on the waiting list for the centre. The one exception is if we become aware of an animal needing rescue due to bad health or living conditions, then PPSC will receive or confiscate the animal. Efforts are always being undertaken to rehabilitate animals so that they can be returned to their natural habitat, moved to specialised centres, or if this is not possible given life time care at PPSC or a suitable sanctuary.

It was these points and more that were discussed and explained in the very successful workshop that was held with all staff and members of PPSC. The main goal of the day was to explain to the staff about the new PPSC. We did this through a presentation and discussion. At the end of the day the staff were encouraged to study the booklet and complete a quiz about the workshop with the incentive of a prize! Over all the day was fun, full of discussion, very informative and was good for the team spirit.
