A new challenge for Wanicare

June 30, 2011

After 3 ½ wonderful year at PPSC I decided that my time at PPSC had to end as I felt that I had to take new steps and challenges together with the Wanicare Foundation. In the past years at PPSC I learned a lot and I think the Wanicare Foundation made some good changes for the center. That I stopped my work at PPSC doesn’t mean that the Wanicare Foundation will stop helping PPSC. Wanicare will continue sending volunteers to Cikananga, helping with project SERO and maybe in the future also in other ways. Of course I will always stay in contact with the great people who work at PPSC and I am sure I will visit Cikananga in the near future .
I am looking back with a very good feeling on my time at PPSC.

In the years to come the Wanicare Foundation will focus on the next items:

  1. Making the Wanicare Foundation bigger, more professional and more known.
  2. Get more people involved with Wanicare in order to reach goal 1.
  3. Find more sponsors and supporters for Wanicare.
  4. And the most important; Finding new animal projects that can use the help from Wanicare in the way of personal support, PR, funding, education, volunteers, medical help, reorganizing business strategies and professionalization.

Sterilization program in Cikananga

June 10, 2011

In Cikananga and the near aria, we started a free sterilization and medical help program for cats and dogs that are held as pets. We where receiving more and more requests from the people in Cikananga if we could castrate their cat or if we could help their dog that had fleas. So we decided to start a small program to help these animals.
Last Wednesday we had our first castration day. The 3 vet students from Canada that are volunteering at PPSC on the moment helped us. Everything went well, no complication and at the end of the day all 3 went back to the owner again. We are planning to open our clinic one day a week so people in the near aria of Cikananga can come to us with their cat’s and dog’s.

Kaka the python is free

June 8, 2011

Python Kaka, who we received in very bad condition is back to the forest. After she recovered well from her medical problems and her appetite was good we decided that it was time to release her.
On June 8th we released her in the forest of Sagaranten nature reserve not far from Cikananga. In this area we also released our other 2 pythons (November 2010). In the afternoon we drove with 7 volunteers, vet Sabrina, Usup (keeper of Kaka) and myself to Sagaranten. A very full care as you can imagine and a lot of eyes that where focused on us and many laughing faces from local people that we passed on the road to Sagaranten. I am sure they never saw so many foreigners sitting in a back of a truck!  Haha

Release of Barn owl

June 2, 2011

Release Happily we were able to release our Barn owl (Tyto alba) Hedwig after 6 day’s staying in PPSC . We received Hedwig on April the 30th. We thought that Hedwig was held as a pet, but the story behind Hedwig was that he flew against a car, the men who hid Hedwig broth him strayed to us after the accident. So after we received this information we released Hedwig in the area of Cikananga. It is feels always so good if we can release an animal so quick after we receive them. Hedwig is free as a bird again:-)
