About

Wanicare Foundation

The Wanicare foundation supports Wild Animal Rescue Centers for the well-being of wild animals, with primates in particular.

Wani is an abbreviation of the word wanita which means girl in Bahasa Indonesian. Wani can also be translated as Willemijn ANImal Care. Willemijn Eggen (veterinary assistant) is the dedicated person behind the foundation. The purpose is to prevent wild animal trade and to release animals back into their natural habitat. The work area is mainly in Asia.

Wanicare gives personal attention to support Wild Animal Rescue Centers by assisting with PR, funding, education, medical needs, and other needs of wildlife rescue operations.
Willemijn has worked since the age of 16 in veterinary practice and in animal rescue centres in the
Netherlands, Thailand and Indonesia. She has done an incredible good job for a wide range of animals in these centres, from veterinary work to fundraising. She loves working with primates and above all, she is very passionate about orang-utans. The saving of hurted or diseased animals means the world to her and so far she is doing a very impressive job in realizing this, as can be read in the stories that are posted on this website.

Activities of Wanicare:
-
Support Rescue Centers with: PR, funding, animal welfare, medical assistance
- Education and awareness about wildlife trade & nature conservation
- Fight against wild animal trade

Since 2008 Wanicare is helping the Cikananga Wildlife Rescue Center (PPSC) in Indonesia, and will keep supporting them. Our aim is to help more rescue centers in the future.

PPSC

Currently the WaniCare Foundation is working for animal rescue center PPSC. PPSC means Pusat Penyelamatan Satwa Cikananga and is based in the hills of Cikananga in West Java Indonesia. PPSC is a large centre that gives home to a huge variety of animals that are in need of help, from reptiles, birds, carnivores to orang-utans and gibbons. Unfortunately PPSC is going through rough times at the moment, mainly caused by a lack of steady donations. Willemijn, with the Wanicare Foundation, is reorganizing and supporting the centre with the goal of eventually letting the centre run properly by it self. There is still a lot of work to be done, but with the efforts of the Wanicare Foundation PPSC is more and more able to attain its original goal: the rescuing of animals and eventually their release in their natural habitat.
