Better enclosures, better welfare
This was a much-needed upgrade made possible thanks to the amazing and generous support of Orang Utan Help Project Letzenbuerg and last year's fundraising action from the students of Yuverta Helmond.
With all Long-tailed macaques translocated and several released last year, the timing was perfect. Thanks to the donations, we’ve been able to, replace and repaint the mesh, install pools in every enclosure, renovate the roofs and made the space lighter and more open, and build a keeper house and redo the pathing around the enclosures.
The first resident, Nami, has already moved in and is happily exploring her beautiful new home! Soon, over 30 macaques, rescued from the pet trade will follow. One by one, they’ll be introduced to each other and begin the important process of socializing and learning to live as a group again. For many, this is the first step towards discovering what it truly means to be a macaque!
